This month I read The Thing Around Your Neck, by Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. Hello, my name is Brianna and I'm reading the book The Thing Around Your Neck because The title caught my attention and it seemed like a good book. Her third book, The Thing Around Your Neck (2009), is a collection of short stories. Adichie gives such insight into Nigeria. Ben and Casey introduced the story The Thing Around Your Neck this week. There is no better way of getting under the skin of a society than by reading it's literature. The Thing around your Neck, her third book, is a collection of twelve short stories written over about seven years, with some of the stories written as far back as 2002. Filled with stories from her home country Nigeria and away, this book is an anthology of twelve stories that reflect the experiences from these varied places. Chimamanda Ngozi is an award winning author whose novels have catapulted her to international fame. All but one of the stories had been previously published. Story Talk (Series 2, Session 7): “The Thing Around Your Neck”. In 2010 she was listed among the authors of The New Yorkers “20 Under 40” Fiction Issue.
